- Five disc technologies in one collection — ceramic paper, ceramic film, gold AO, foam, and spot repair. Each has a specific job. Using the wrong one costs time and money.
- The FF78 47-hole universal disc is the safest choice if you run multiple sander brands — one hole pattern that fits every 6" DA on the market.
- The FT77 PuroFilm 119-hole goes to P2000 and has anti-clog film backing — the right disc for aluminum, fine primer work, and high-grit finishing without switching to wet paper.
- FlexPro foam discs (P2000–P5000) are for clear coat correction and orange peel removal after the sanding stages are done — not interchangeable with abrasive discs.
- SpotFix 1-1/4" PSA discs are for dust nib removal and clear coat spot repair by hand or with a detail sander — the only sub-3" disc in the lineup.
- Ceramic lasts 3–4x longer than aluminum oxide on the same surface. Gold AO F25 is the economy option for high-volume rough work where disc cost per job matters more than longevity.
The most common mistake I see is using one disc type for the entire job. Ceramic for filler shaping, film for primer, foam for clear coat — these are not interchangeable. Each stage has a disc built for it. The lineup below covers every stage from bare metal to final polish.

Which Disc for Which Stage?
| Stage | Right Disc | Grit |
|---|---|---|
| Paint stripping, rust removal, heavy filler shaping | Blue Ceramic F65 or FF78 | P40–P80 |
| Filler blending, bare metal prep | FF78 Universal or F65 | P80–P180 |
| Primer sanding — most common stage | FF78 or FT77 PuroFilm | P220–P320 |
| Fine finishing, pre-base coat | FT77 PuroFilm | P400–P800 |
| Clear coat leveling, orange peel removal | FT77 PuroFilm or FlexPro Foam | P1000–P2000 |
| Final polish, swirl removal | FlexPro Foam | P3000–P5000 |
| Dust nib removal, clear coat spot repair | SpotFix 1-1/4" PSA | P2000–P5000 |
The Full Lineup
🔵 Ceramic Discs — Stock Removal to Primer
| Product | Size / Holes | Grit Range | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Ceramic F65 – 6" 49H – 50pcs | 6" / 49 holes | P40–P800 | Festool ETS 150 / RO 150, filler shaping, bare metal |
| Blue Ceramic F65 – 5" 8H – 50pcs | 5" / 8 holes | P40–P800 | 5" DA sanders, door jambs, tight panel areas |
| FF78 Universal – 6" 47H – 50pcs | 6" / 47 holes (universal) | P40–P800 | Any 6" sander, mixed-brand shops, filler to primer |
Ceramic self-sharpens under heat — lasts 3–4x longer than AO on the same surface. Semi-open coat on F65; open coat on FF78.
🟣 PuroFilm Ceramic — Primer to Clear Coat
| Product | Size / Holes | Grit Range | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| FT77 PuroFilm – 6" 119H – 50pcs | 6" / 119 holes | P80–P2000 | Primer, clear coat, aluminum, high-grit finishing |
Film backing is tear-resistant and waterproof. Anti-clog stearate coating prevents loading on aluminum and paint. The only disc in the lineup rated to P2000 dry.
🟡 Gold Aluminum Oxide — Economy Option
| Product | Size / Holes | Grit Range | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold AO F25 – 6" 15H – 50pcs | 6" / 15 holes | P40–P800 | High-volume rough work, general prep, budget-conscious shops |
| Gold AO F25 – 5" 8H – 50pcs | 5" / 8 holes | P40–P800 | 5" sanders, general sanding where ceramic longevity isn’t critical |
AO costs less per disc but wears faster. Best for rough stages where you go through discs quickly and longevity is less important than unit cost.
🟢 FlexPro Foam — Clear Coat Polishing
| Product | Size | Grit Range | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| FlexPro Foam Discs – 6" – 15pcs | 6" / H&L | P2000–P5000 | Orange peel removal, clear coat leveling, pre-polish on large panels |
| FlexPro Foam Discs – 3" – 15pcs | 3" / H&L | P2000–P5000 | Spot paint correction, small defects, detail sander work |
3D pyramid SiC abrasive structure distributes pressure evenly across the foam. Use after all sanding stages are complete — these are polishing discs, not sanding discs.
🔴 SpotFix — Dust Nib & Spot Repair
| Product | Size | Grit Range | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| SpotFix PSA Film Discs – 1-1/4" – 100pcs | 1-1/4" (32mm) / PSA | P2000–P5000 | Dust nib removal, clear coat spot repair, SMART repair, paint correction by hand |
Waterproof SiC film with PSA backing. Use with a 1-1/4" detail sander or by hand on a rubber block. 100-pack for production use.
From a Customer
"I love the Purple Film Sanding Discs FT77! The 119-hole pattern keeps dust away and allows me to work faster with a perfect finish every time. They’re great for both large panels and detailed spots — my go-to discs for all car refinishing jobs."
— Emily L., Auto Body Detailer

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the F65, FF78, and FT77 discs?
The F65 is a ceramic disc on C-weight paper backing with a semi-open coat — best for filler shaping and bare metal prep on Festool 150mm sanders (49-hole) or standard 5" sanders (8-hole). The FF78 is a ceramic film disc with a 47-hole universal pattern that fits every 6" DA sander on the market — best for filler to primer stages across mixed-brand shops. The FT77 PuroFilm is a ceramic film disc with 119 holes and anti-clog coating that goes to P2000 — best for primer, aluminum, and high-grit finishing where disc longevity and clog resistance matter most.
When do I switch from sanding discs to FlexPro foam discs?
Switch to FlexPro foam discs after the clear coat has been applied and cured. Foam discs at P2000-P5000 are for leveling orange peel, removing sanding marks from the clear coat, and preparing the surface for final machine polish. They are not abrasive sanding discs — do not use them on primer, filler, or bare metal. The correct sequence is: sand primer with FT77 at P320-P400, apply base coat and clear coat, then use FlexPro foam at P2000 to level the clear, P3000 to refine, and P5000 before machine polish.
What are the SpotFix 1-1/4" discs used for?
SpotFix discs are for dust nib removal and clear coat spot repair — the small defects that appear after painting that do not require sanding the entire panel. At P2000-P5000, they remove individual nibs, runs, and small imperfections in the clear coat without affecting the surrounding area. Use with a 1-1/4" detail sander or by hand on a small rubber block. The PSA backing makes disc changes fast in production. Waterproof — can be used wet or dry.
Ceramic vs aluminum oxide — which should I buy?
Ceramic (F65, FF78, FT77) lasts 3-4x longer per disc than aluminum oxide (F25) on the same surface. Ceramic self-sharpens under heat, which means it maintains cut rate longer before glazing. Gold AO F25 costs less per disc and is the right choice for high-volume rough stages where you are going through discs quickly and longevity is less important than unit cost. For production shops doing full refinishes, ceramic pays for itself in reduced disc changes and consistent cut rate.
Which disc fits my sander if I am not sure about hole patterns?
Use the FF78 47-hole universal disc. The 47-hole pattern is engineered to align with virtually every 6" backing pad configuration on the market, including Festool, Mirka, DeWalt, Bosch, Makita, Porter-Cable, Ridgid, and Milwaukee. If you run a 5" sander, the F65 8-hole and F25 8-hole discs fit all standard 5" (125mm) hook-and-loop backing pads. The only exception is the F65 49-hole disc, which is specifically for Festool 150mm sanders.
Can I use 6" discs on a 5" sander or vice versa?
No. 5" (125mm) and 6" (150mm) discs are not interchangeable. Using a larger disc on a smaller sander causes the disc to overhang the backing pad, which creates uneven pressure, edge gouging, and accelerated disc wear. Always match disc diameter to your sander's backing pad size. If you are unsure, check your sander's manual or the backing pad diameter stamped on the pad itself.
Why do my discs wear out faster on one side?
Uneven disc wear is almost always caused by one of three things: too much hand pressure on the sander (let the machine do the work), a worn backing pad that no longer holds the disc flat, or an interface pad that is too thick for the surface being sanded. On flat panels, skip the interface pad and run the disc directly on the backing pad. Replace the backing pad when the hook-and-loop surface no longer grips the disc firmly across the full face.
Do FastPlus discs fit Rupes LHR15 and LHR21 polishers?
Yes. The Rupes LHR15 uses a 6" (150mm) backing pad and the LHR21 uses a 6" backing pad as well. All FastPlus 6" Hook and Loop discs fit both Rupes polishers directly. The FlexPro 6" foam discs are particularly well-suited for use with the Rupes LHR15 and LHR21 for clear coat leveling and orange peel removal at P2000-P5000.
