Where 320 Ends and Real Finishing Begins

I see a lot of people stop at 320 and wonder why their clear coat still looks hazy after compound. The answer is almost always that 320 scratches are too deep for compound to fully remove — you need 400 wet sand in between. At 400 grit, you are refining the scratch pattern left by 320 into something fine enough that a DA polisher with compound can finish the job cleanly.
