More holes means more of the disc surface is in contact with suction at any given moment. At ultra-fine grits, heat buildup from friction is the main risk on lacquer and conversion varnish. The 119-hole pattern combined with the high dust extraction of compatible sanders keeps the surface temperature low enough to sand dry at 1200G, 1500G, and 2000G without burning the finish. Standard 8-hole discs at these grits on a conventional sander generate enough heat to risk surface damage. What grit should I start with on the PuroFilm 119H for automotive clear coat sanding?
For clear coat leveling and orange peel removal, start at 320G or 400G depending on how much material needs to come off. Use 320G if the orange peel is heavy or if you are leveling a fresh spray job. Use 400G if the surface is already relatively flat and you are refining. From there, follow the wet sanding sequence: 400G → 600G → 800G → compound, or extend to 1000G before finishing polish for show-quality results.
